RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) - One local agency is teaming up with insurance company State Farm to help open the doors to home ownership.
Southside Community Development and Housing Corporation wants to get the word out about free grant money that potential buyers can use for down payment assistance and closing costs.
There are a series of financial literacy and home purchase workshops lined up at SCDHC and they’re free to the public. If you would like to take part, you can call 804-350-4139.
The workshops will be held at the Southside Community Development and Housing Corporation office located at 1624 Hull Street.
Smitty Smith of River City Blues Realty tells CBS 6 News that the grant money can be used for homes in Richmond, Chesterfield and Henrico. He says most people are unaware as to the amount and the availability of down payment assistance grants. They can range from $5,000 to as much as $50,000.
“Last week I helped one of my clients receive $63,000 in down payment assistance grants for a $176,000 home. So, it’s real” said Smith.
