RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) - At the beginning of the day, three area teams had a chance to play for a state championship. But by the end of the night, only one remained standing.
Petersburg, the number one boys’ high school basketball team in the state, got 37 points and 11 rebounds from Frank Mason in the Crimson Wave’s 77-56 win over Kecoughtan.
Petersburg advanced to the state championship game for the second time in three years.
Petersburg will play Hampton, in a rematch of the 1989 title game.
The Crabbers defeated Henrico 74-60.
The loss ended the Warriors season at 28-2.
On the girls’ side, Highland Springs magical run to a state title came to an end after a 57-48 loss to Princess Anne in the state semifinals.
Jazzmin Dabney, Kermisha Clark and Alexus Cooper each scored 10 points for the Springers…who ended their season at 29-2.
