RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) - Don Cornelius, founder of the longest running dance TV show, Soul Train, was found dead today of an apparent gunshot wound to the head.

We spoke with local DJ’s about the influence of his show, one that he wanted to be the “black American Bandstand.”

"I grew up watching the Dick Clark Show and limited black people in the dance studio, and no black artists.  So when Don Cornelius came along, it was a shot in the arm for Black People,” said Kirby Carmichael, Richmond DJ.
