JAMES CITY COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) – A bomb scare on Monday cleared out most of a neighborhood in James City County.

We’re told around 4:30pm on Monday, someone in a home on the 3000 block of North Riverside Drive called emergency responders to report they had found a suspicious device in a garage.

James City County responders arrived and found a “realistic-looking” device. A State Police bomb squad and the FBI were called in to look at the device. They were able to determine that the device did not pose any danger.

Neighbors’ homes within 300 feet were evacuated. It wasn’t until 10:30pm, six hours later, that crews finally cleared out.

At this point we have not been told whether any criminal charges will be pursued. We expect an update today.
