Person burned in Ashland house fire

ASHLAND, Va. -- One person suffered minor burns in an Ashland house fire Monday.

"Our crews were quickly able to get the fire under control," a Hanover Fire and EMS spokesperson posted on social media. "Please join us in extending our thoughts and prayers for those affected by this devastating loss."

The fire was reported at about 5:25 p.m. along the 11400 block of Karen Drive.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

"We encourage you to have working smoke alarms on each floor of your home and outside of each sleeping area, and recommend smoke alarms greater than 10 years old be replaced," the post continued. "Anyone requiring assistance with smoke alarms can contact the Metro Richmond Chiefs Smoke Alarm Hotline at 1-888-537-5967."
