RICHMOND, Va. -- Five days after joining a very elite club with his third Daytona 500 title, Chesterfield’s Denny Hamlin speaks with Sports Director Lane Casadonte about the win, Ryan Newman’s crash and how this can set up the 11 team’s season.
Hamlin joins Richard Petty (7), Cale Yarborough (4), Dale Jarrett (3), Jeff Gordon (3), and Bobby Allison (3) as the only drivers to have won the Great American race more than twice. He is also the first driver in 25 years to win back-to-back 500 titles.
Hamlin visited Ryan Newman in the hospital Monday night after Newman’s horrific crash at the finish of the race. Hamlin describes what he saw over the final 300 yards of the race and the short amount of time (so far) that he’s had to reflect on the history he has made.
