RICHMOND, Va. -- Comedian Aries Spears, known for his work on Fox's "Mad TV" and his "Spears and Steinberg" podcast, is performing at the Richmond Funny Bone in Short Pump this weekend.
The comedian, famous for his impressions and unfiltered comedy style, has been a regular visitor to Richmond over the years.
"I've been coming here year after year, and it's always the Richmond people have always been gracious and wonderful, and it's a good time," Spears said.
When asked about his podcast's success, Spears remains focused on growth despite its popularity.
"I think it's still trying to find its legs. You know, everything is always evolving to try to be better. So while I'm grateful for the audience that we have, we're definitely trying to grow and get bigger and better," Spears said.
Spears describes his comedy style as consistent across all platforms, whether stand-up or podcasting.
"I don't really think it's any different. When you come see my stand-up versus listening to the podcast, it's the same thing. It's unfiltered, raw, unapologetic," Spears said.
For his Richmond performances, Spears embraces spontaneity alongside his planned material.
"While you can try to predict it, that's the beauty of what we do, is like it is unpredictable. I got a certain number of things planned, but I'm always prepared to go off the cuff, too. Spontaneity is beautiful," Spears said.
Spears will be joined by his podcast partner, Andy Steinberg, who will open the shows.
Aries Spears will perform at the Richmond Funny Bone with shows on Friday at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., Saturday at 6:30 p.m. and 9 p.m., and Sunday at 6:30 p.m.
