MIAMI — Odette has become a post-tropical cyclone as it swirls across the open Atlantic on a path forecast to take it well offshore of Nova Scotia in Canada.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center said Odette was about 385 miles south-southwest of Halifax, Nova Scotia by Saturday evening and had top sustained winds of 45 mph.

Forecasters say the center Odette will pass well south of Atlantic Canada from late Saturday into Monday.

Swells kicked up by Odette were affecting parts of the mid-Atlantic coast and will continue to cause dangerous conditions off the coasts of the Northeast U.S. and parts of Canada over rest of the weekend.
