DINWIDDIE COUNTY, Va. -- Ruth Thompson celebrated her 100th birthday over the weekend.
The Dinwiddie resident travels frequently, keeps her mind sharp by taking classes at Richmond Bland Community College, and still drives. In fact, family said she got her first speeding ticket last year at the age of 99.
"Before the COVID quarantine, she worked out and swam three times a week at the Petersburg YMCA," Susie Roman shared with CBS 6 News. "She has competed in the Senior Olympics for over 30 years, winning countless medals."
Roman said Ruth was bummed the 2020 Senior Games have been postponed.
Ruth also serves as choir director for her church, where she is also a Sunday School teacher.
Ruth is looking forward to celebrating with her children, nine grandchildren, nine great-grand children, and one great-great grand child.
