CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. -- Authorities have released the name of a 58-year-old man they say drowned on the Appomattox River Saturday afternoon.

Officers were called to help rescue personnel with a possible drowning on the river near the 21600 block of Chesterfield Avenue around 12:20 p.m., Lt. David Sumner with Chesterfield Police said.

"Responding officers learned an adult male had gone into the water and went under without coming back to the surface," Sumner said.

Ricky Darnell Beasley, of Buckingham County, pulled from the water by the Chesterfield County Fire Department Dive and Rescue Team.

Beasley was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.

"Police continue to investigate this incident, but at this point foul play is not suspected," Sumner said.

Anyone with information that could help investigators is asked to call the Chesterfield County Police Department at 804-748-1251 or Crime Solvers at 804-748-0660.

This is a developing story, so anyone with more information can submit a news tip here.
