RICHMOND, Va. -- When two Charlottesville music educators noticed that preschool-aged children didn't have has many options for digital learning, they decided to create a free virtual music program.

Mike and Mary Anderson who run "My Music Starts Here" launched the virtual program for children ages 3 to 7.

They said they wanted to create a platform to engage young children in a way that's healthy for brain development.

"Actively participating in music is one of the best ways to support a child's brain development, as well as build their math, literacy, and social skills," said Mary Anderson. "It also taps into children's creativity and imagination, while bringing them joy and a sense of safety and well-being - things that our children always deserve, but are high priorities during this incredibly challenging time."

The program offers interactive videos that promote mindfulness and active listening while also giving the option for screen-free learning.
