Mechanicsville motorcyclist dies after head-on crash with a Tesla

HANOVER COUNTY, Va. — A 39-year-old motorcyclist from Mechanicsville died Sunday afternoon after a two-vehicle crash.

The Hanover County Sheriff's Office said they responded to the crash on Walnut Grove Road around 1:10 p.m.

Based on their investigation, the motorcyclist was driving a Harley Davidson and turned at the intersection with Old Calvary Drive. While turning, they crossed into the north lane of travel and hit a Tesla SUV head-on.

The driver of the Harley Davidson died at the scene. They were identified as April Sawyer, deputies said.

The sheriff's office did not say whether or not the occupants of the Tesla were injured.

Investigators are still collecting information to determine the circumstances that led to this crash.
