HENRICO COUNTY, Va. -- The pandemic has taken a bit out of different organizations like non-profits over the last ten months or so. One of those non-profits is Henrico Humane Society. They do such a wonderful job saving homeless animals across central Virginia.
Megan Duke a volunteer with the Henrico Humane Society appeared with a 14-week-old puppy named Murphy who appears to be a boxer mix from Goochland. Megan says Murphy came from a litter of nine puppies.
Megan says Henrico Humane Society is a 100% volunteer and 100% foster based organization and the sole goal is to rescue as many dogs and cats as possible. The money raised helps with medical costs most of the animals need and then place them in their forever home.
Megan says, “Covid has caused certainly a difficult year for many people. Non-profits are not excluded. Our largest fundraiser of the year is the Pet Expo which raises tens of thousands of dollars. We’re not able to host that this year. Henrico Humane has tried to pivot and come up with creative ways to fundraise. We are even more grateful now to the Richmond community for their willingness to support us.”
As a dog lover myself the Pet Expo is near and dear to my heart. I have been emceeing the January event for 15 years. We at CBS 6 wanted to help out in any way we can so we donated $200 to the cause.
I love Month of Giving and I love Murphy. Let’s find him a forever home.
