RICHMOND, Va. -- A gastropub in Richmond raised money Sunday to help firefighters battling the wildfires in Australia.
The fundraiser at the Southern Railway Taphouse in Shockoe Bottom benefited the New South Wales Rural Fire Service, which is the volunteer firefighting agency in New South Wales.
Several items were raffled off, including local artwork and staycations at some of the hotels in downtown Richmond.
“I lived in Australia for a little bit, so it hits close to home because I know a lot of people out there,” bartender Lauren Gerardi said.
Recent downpours in Australia have helped deescalate several the fires.
At last check Sunday night, there was no word on how much money was raised.
