CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. -- A group of teenagers from Chesterfield and Hanover counties teamed up to make a difference Saturday.

The teens, who play together on the Pro Skills Basketball team, decided to donate to Mission From The Heart, the non-profit founded by CBS 6 Problem Solver Shelby Brown.

As a service project, the girls met up for a day of shopping to buy coats and toiletry items for needy Richmond Public Schools students, some of whom are experiencing homelessness.

“We're fortunate enough to get in warm cars and things like that,” player Lilly Berger said. “And it's just important for us to give back to people who don't have those opportunities.”

Pro Skills Basketball Coach Luchel Sylvain said service to the community is an important lesson for the team.

“This is one thing where they can kinda come together and have a sense of community and kinda feel good doing something good for somebody else,” Sylvain said.

Some of the players will also take part in the distribution of the coast and supplies next week.

They will also help hand out 200 meals for families at Overby Sheppard Elementary.

Mission From The Heart Foundation is a nonprofit serving students who are experiencing homelessness and low income families in the Metro Richmond area, including Petersburg, Chesterfield, Henrico and Hanover. To learn more, go to missionfromtheheartrva.org.
