RICHMOND, Va. -- Many small businesses and restaurants are struggling to stay open as the COVID-19 pandemic and restrictions designed to slow its spread impact the community.

As part of her CBS 6 Gives segment, Candace Burns visited the Coliseum Loft Deli and Market in downtown Richmond where owner Abbas Jahangiri is fighting hard for the survival of his business.

"I love to make people happy," Jahangiri told Burns earlier this month. "We don't have that much business. It's operating at 20 percent business, compared to the previous year."

Candace returned to the restaurant this week to present Jahangiri with a gift card.

"We know it's just a drop in the bucket," she said before encouraging others to support their favorite local restaurants. "There are a lot of local restaurant owners who are in this same position because of COVID-19. And if you have the means you can grab lunch or dinner from one of your local spots, and it will make a difference together, we can all do something to make sure that our favorite restaurants are around when the pandemic is over."
