PORTLAND, Maine — President George H.W. Bush remains in fair condition at Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine, after breaking a vertebrae in his neck after a fall on Wednesday, according to a statement from his spokesman.

“The president never lost consciousness, and the injury he sustained neither impinged on his spine nor resulted in any neurological deficits. He continues to have normal use of his limbs,” said Jim McGrath, a family spokesman, in a statement.

Bush will be treated with a neck brace and there are no plans for surgery at this time, a family spokesman said.
