NEW KENT, Va. -- Virginia State Police are on scene investigating a fatal accident involving a tractor-trailer. The single-vehicle accident occurred around 7:51 p.m. on Interstate 64 westbound, at mile marker 220 in New Kent County.
A 2005 Freightliner tractor trailer was traveling west on Interstate 64 when it ran off the road left struck a tree, partially overturning. The truck spilled a large amount of diesel fuel; it was loaded with rolls of fiberglass.
The driver (single occupant) of the tractor-trailer died at the scene. He was wearing a seatbelt.
The name is being withheld until next of kin notification can be made.
The overturned tractor-trailer is leaking diesel fuel. The left lane was blocked for hours, well into the night, for clean up.
