RICHMOND, Va. -- Springtime has come to Central Virginia.
While the blossoms and the buzzing of bees signal warmer temperatures, it also signals allergies.
According the the Allergy and Asthma Foundation, Richmond is the tenth worst in the nation this year when it comes to allergies. The good news? Richmond was eighth worst last year.
But will 2015 surpass 2014 as one of the worst for pollen? After all, last year the word "pollen vortex" was introduced to our lexicon.
"This year is going to be bad but I don't know if it will be as bad as last year," Dr. Ananth Thyagarajan, a Richmond allergist, said.
Thyagarajan says the fact cold temperatures lasted well into late March, forced Mother Nature to bloom all at once.
"It leads to a shorter pollen season over a shorter period of time," Thyagarajan said.
