Shocking video out of California shows an allegedly intoxicated woman passed out in her car in the middle of a busy freeway as cars pass by, and it took a police officer smashing a window to rouse the woman and get her to safety.
Police said the black Chrysler Sebring was stopped in the number three lane of the northbound 805 with traffic speeding by on both sides.
Paul Anderegg spotted the car, pulled over and called 911. During a break in traffic the man rushed over and tried to wake the driver, but as the video shows his attempts to rouse her were not successful. The windows were rolled up and the doors locked.
Cars and trucks continued to pass bay, shifting to the right or left to avoid a crash with the vehicle.
“You can see cars are going by 65, 70, even 80 miles an hour. Any impact… and that was very close,” Said Officer Jake Sanchez of the California Highway Patrol.
Moments later, Officer Sergio Flores, CHP, arrived on scene and tried to rouse the driver. After waiting a second for a speeding car to pass, he moved into position and swung his flashlight at her window.
That’s when the Sebring started rolling slowly forward as the driver’s foot came off the brake. Flores ran around behind the car to rap on the passenger window, breaking in.
You can hear him say in the video: “Stop your car, you’re going to crash.”
Flores was eventually able to open the door and shift the car into park. The woman was collected from behind the wheel and walked over to the curb, and there was an empty vodka bottle visible on her floorboard.
Amber Dlaine McKinney, 25, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
