Walmart shoplifters spray deodorant, fire shots in bizarre escape

Posted

COLLINSVILLE, Ill. -- Police in Illinois are looking for several shoplifting suspects who sprayed deodorant in the face of a Walmart employee minutes before firing shots at a customer they apparently believed was following them.

Shortly after midnight, five suspects and a young child were spotted walking out of a Walmart in Collinsville, Illinois, without paying for three shopping carts full of merchandise.

After being confronted, one of the suspects sprayed deodorant in the face of an employee. One of the suspects also told an employee they had a gun but never showed it.

The suspects fled with one of the shopping carts, put the merchandise in their vehicle and drove away.

Two Walmart customers pulled out of the parking lot behind the suspects' vehicle, apparently causing the suspects to think someone from the store was following them. One of the suspects got out of the car, fired several shots at the customer's truck and sped away.

No one was injured.

Police have  released surveillance photos of the suspects taken inside the Walmart. One black male and three black females are considered suspects. They also released a photo of a car similar to the suspects' vehicle, a dark teal Pontiac Grand Prix.
