HOUSTON, Texas — A woman weighing more than 1,000 lbs once took the blame for killing her 2-year-old nephew. Mayra Rosales, 34, was dubbed the “Half Ton Killer.” She has now lost 800lbs and her sister has confessed to killing the toddler.

Rosales’ 2-year-old nephew died after her sister hit him with a hair brush in 2008. Her sister begged her to take the blame, telling her that she had already given up on life. Rosales later told ABC she was willing to give up everything for Jamie.

Mayra falsely confessed to police that she accidentally smothered the child by rolling on top of him while sleeping. She was then charged with murder.

Mayra’s sister later confessed after an autopsy discredited the smothering story. Her name was officially cleared and the charge was dropped. Her sister was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

“Do not lose hope and keep fighting because we only have one life, and it’s well worth fighting for it,” Rosales said.

She vowed to get healthy and lose the weight so she could care for her sister’s children. She changed her diet and went under the knife. Multiple surgical procedures helped change her life. Mayra says she still has more weight to lose.

Her story is now inspiring more people to lose weight. Read KTRK-TV’s report on Mayra Rosales journey here.
