POWHATAN COUNTY, Va. -- One person was killed in a house fire in Powhatan County Tuesday morning.
Firefighters were called to a home in the 1300 block of Stavemill Road around 5:30 a.m.
When units arrived, the spotted 50 percent of the home engulfed in flames and flames shooting through the roof.
The Powhatan County Fire Chief told CBS 6 senior reporter Wayne Covil that an adult male victim's body was discovered near the home's front door.
The victim's name has not yet been released.
Additionally, one firefighters suffered a minor injury battling the blaze and was taken to the hospital to be checked out.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The Virginia State Police is investigating what sparked the blaze. The Powhatan County Sheriff's Office is conducting a death investigation.
