GREENSVILLE, SC — A 23-year-old man cast as the Donkey “Shrek: The Musical” in South Carolina has been trying to come up with a creative way to pop the question to his girlfriend for a few months.
WHNS reports that Landon Odom was cast as Donkey in “Shrek: The Musical” in Greer and decided to ask the director for help. The two decided Odom should bring his girlfriend, Sara Garner, on stage and propose during the last song.
So, at the end of opening night at the J Harley Bonds Career Center, Odom got down on one knee in full costume to ask Garner to marry him. He said proposing was the most nervous he was on stage that evening.
The proposal went better than expected though, Odom said. He said Garner helped with costumes and setup for the play, so many people in the cast and audience knew them and were excited.
“They went crazy,” he said. “Everyone got to know us and came up to congratulate us. It went way better than expected.”
Odom said his girlfriend was a little embarrassed the proposal was in front of so many people, but that she was excited about their engagement. They are planning their wedding for sometime at the end of summer 2015.
