RICHMOND, Va. — Around 200 local children received new shoes from Saxon Shoes as part of the YMCA’s Bright Beginning. Children participating in the program go back-to-school shopping with adult volunteers.
“We started working with Bright Beginnings about seven years ago and we love it,” Special Projects Coordinator for Saxon Amanda Weiner said. “The children come in so excited for their fitting and walk out all smiles with a new pair of shoes for back to school.”
In addition to shoes, as part of the program children receive two fall outfits, socks and underwear.
The YMCA of Greater Richmond serves more than 178,000 people each year.
“The YMCA is grateful to once again work with Saxon Shoes for YMCA Bright Beginnings,” YMCA director of community engagement Katie Gholson said. “This program not only gives children the supplies they need for the upcoming school year, but it provides them with a level of confidence that is invaluable.”
