FAIRFIELD, Calif. (KXTL) — Police are investigating a horrific case of child abuse that took place earlier this week in California.
KXTL reports that the infant’s 17-year-old mother frantically called 911 early Monday morning saying that her one-month-old was bleeding profusely from his nose.
When Fairfield police investigators arrived, they were horrified by what they discovered.
Police said the boy’s father, 18-year-old Joshua Cooper, was arrested for allegedly biting off a third of his son’s nose because the baby would not stop crying.
The infant, who also suffered a skull fracture and brain hemorrhaging, is being treated at Oakland Children’s Hospital.
Cooper was charged with child endangerment and aggravated mayhem.
“It was a very unusual case. It’s disturbing and gruesome,” the Fairfield Police Major Crimes Unit’s Troy Oviatt told KXTL.
Police investigating how the infant sustained the other injuries.
