RILEY COUNTY, Kansas (CNN/KCTV)– A soldier recently reunited with his dog after someone stole him out of the yard nearly two years ago.

About five years ago, Army Master Sgt. Paul Brightwell was about to be sent home from Iraq. He’d always wanted a bulldog, so he bought one online and had the puppy waiting when he got home, according to KCTV.

Three years later, the dog was stolen in Oklahoma.

At the time, a number of purebred dogs were stolen from around town.

Dozens of people searched for Maximus for nearly a month, but they couldn’t find the dog.

Two years later, Brightwell was working in Kansas, when he got the call.

Maximus was found wandering the streets in Kansas City, and was identified through a microchip, according to KCTV.

Their reunion was caught on video, and it’s gone viral with more than 500,000 views on YouTube.
