EL PASO, Texas (KFOX) -- A Texas woman got to hold her baby for the first time since an attack while she was nine-months pregnant.
It was a tear-jerking reunion as 31-year-old Rachel Poole cradled her healthy baby girl, Isabella, a miracle in the wake of a nightmare.
Mother and daughter both recovering at an El Paso hospital after Poole was stabbed multiple times in the face and stomach, just two days before giving birth.
The savage attack unfolded last Wednesday, while Poole was “Facetimeing” with her husband, Justin, an army private deployed thousands of miles away in southwest Asia.
Police said Poole was on the phone when she was confronted by an intruder who had been inside her home. She immediately recognized the suspect, 19-year-old Corey Bernard Moss, who was waiting for her with a knife in hand.
According to police, Poole repeatedly screamed his name to her husband over the phone as he stabbed her several times. The suspect then fled the scene.
Her husband then frantically took to Facebook, pleading with friends for help:
"If u are seeing this message find out what f-----g hospital my wife is in and tell me the f-----g whereabouts of Corey moss. He f-----g went to my house while I'm deployed and stabbed her..."
She managed to dial 911 and was transported to the hospital, where she delivered her baby two days later.
Her husband is now stateside with his wife and new daughter.
"The recovery is going pretty well. We have an amazingly strong daughter who is absolutely gorgeous,” said Rachel Poole. “It means the world, just being able to see her and know that, through everything, that she's doing just fine."
Investigators said the suspect's motive involved money that he owed to Poole for vehicle repairs. He's been charged with attempted murder. His bond set at $60,000.
"She wants people of the world to continue to pray, leave messages on our Facebook pages,” said Justin Poole. “And just everybody keep praying for our daughter to make a full recovery and praying for my wife to make a full recovery."
