(WTVR) -- James River High School is the only school in Central Virginia with its own rowing team. And rowers they have, some 90 of them.
Coach Hank Holswade teaches them how to row and within a month or so they’re ready to race.
This weekend his crews will face off against six other Virginia schools in the Head of the James regatta. Five of their competitors comes from the Tidewater region.
Our Bill Fitzgerald spoke with Coach Holswade about the team, the regatta and the college prospects of some of his rowers.
The Head of the James is a 3-mile course that finishes near the Robious Landing launch area in Midlothian. Come on down and watch some exciting races. They start at 9:30 a.m. Saturday and run until about noon.
