RIR To Remove Seats

Posted

RICHMOND (WTVR) – In what is believed to be a first for Richmond International Raceway, officials will begin removing seating sections tomorrow.

RIR spokeswoman Aimee Turner confirms the track is removing the Henrico Tower Grandstand, the highest seats that run along the backstretch of the track.

The seats sold for $70 but routinely received the worst reviews from fans according to RIR fan surveys. Turner said the lowest seats in the tower are more than 70 steps from the ground and because of their location, were the furthest away from restrooms and concessions.

Ticket holders will receive an email from RIR tomorrow. Track President Dennis Bickmeyer will also speak about the varied reasons behind the move.

Slow ticket sales have been an issue, but the fan disapproval of these particular seats existed before the country’s economic downturn. Fans have said that the limited visibility and facilities are a big turnoff, and as seats in more desirable sections of the track have come available, they have moved into those areas.
