CHESTERFIELD, Va. (WTVR) — One of the men arrested for the hazing deaths of two Virginia State University students is on the run again.
All four suspects in the hazing deaths of two VSU students were released on bond after the initial hazing charges in May. Three of the men, James Mackey, Eriq Benson and Corey Baytop have been arraigned on the new charges of involuntary manslaughter.
However, police said they cannot find Charles Zollicoffer.
The parents of Jawaun Holmes, one of the freshman who was swept away during April’s hazing ritual in the Appomattox River, said they are happy the charges have been upgraded.
“This was a surprise to us yesterday,” said Dionne Williams, Holmes’ mother.
VSU announced last month it would change the way it handles hazing cases after the deaths of Holmes and fellow student Marvell Edmonds.
