RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) -- Women’s health took center stage Tuesday at the Jefferson Hotel.
Dozens of people turned out to support the annual Massey Cancer Center's Women and Wellness forum breakfast, benefiting women's cancer research.
Lee Woodruff was this year`s guest speaker. She is an author and wife of ABC correspondent Bob Woodruff, who also reported at WTVR-CBS 6 years ago.
Mrs. Woodruff reflected on her husband's recovery from a traumatic brain injury after he was hit by a roadside bomb in Iraq in 2007.
She shared how the healing process is often similar to what cancer patients and their families experience during the grueling months of treatment.
“Our journey is no really different than anyone who goes through the journey of cancer. There’s uncertainty, there’s grief, there’s fear, there’s loss, and there’s the desire to have hope, and to keep that little glimmer of hope alive,” said Woodruff.
U.S. News and World Report rates the Massey Cancer Center as the top cancer center in Virginia. CBS 6 is a proud sponsor of the Women and Wellness forum.
