VARINA, Va. (WTVR) – The Washignton Redskins may be out of the NFL playoffs, but local football fans still have plenty to root for. The Seattle Seahawks feature two former Richmond-area high school football stars.

Seahawks Quarterback Russell Wilson led the Collegiate School to three straight Virginia Independent Schools state titles (2004 – 2006).

Seahawks fullback Michael Robinson was named the Virginia High School Football Coaches Association Group AAA Player of the Year in 2000.

Robinson played quarterback his final two years at Varina High School. During his four years at Varina, he helped lead the Blue Devils to four Central Region, Division 6 championships.

To honor Robinson’s accomplishments as a professional football player, Ukrop’s Homestyle Foods plans to donate 50 commemorative cakes to Varina High School.

The cakes will feature a Seahawks logo and will have “Go Michael Robinson” written on them, according to an email from Henrico County Schools.

“My family is from the Varina area so we have a lot of ties there. My mother, Jacquelin Beadles-Ukrop was the valedictorian in 1932,” Bobby Ukrop said in a statement. “We always think it’s important to honor those community members who have made a difference and have done something really special.”

Varina High School plans to use the cakes for a fundraiser.
