In a much anticipated non-conference matchup at the Siegel Center, VCU gave former Rams' head coach Anthony Grant a not so warm welcome back to Richmond in a 73-54 win over the Crimson Tide.
VCU held Alabama without a basket on 15 straight possessions in the first half, a span of 10:42 in the game. Four Rams scored in double figures led by Troy Daniels 16 points.
Elsewhere, Richmond won their fifth straight game with a 76-57 win over Stetson. Derrick Williams led three Spiders in double figures with 21 points and eight rebounds.
Virginia Tech was stunned at home by Georgia Southern 78-73. Erick Green matched a career high with 28 points but C.J. Reed scored 16 of his 22 points in the second half to give the Eagles their first win over an ACC school.
