HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) - Henrico police said a military mortar shell discovered inside a West End home has prompted an evacuation.
The shell was discovered Friday afternoon inside a home in the 1900 block of Navion Street.
Police told a CBS 6 News crew on the scene that they were executing search warrants for possible narcotics when they found the shell.
Officials from Ft. Belvoir will remove the 81mm shell from the home. Officials said there was no gunpowder inside, but that they are a bit worried about one fuse.
As a precaution, that home where the shell was found and the two neighboring houses were evacuated. Folks will not be allowed back inside until the mortar is removed.
There has been no word yet on how the shell got in the home.
