HERTFORD, N.C (WTKR) - A 10-month-old boy was killed by a dog in Hertford, North Carlina Tuesday evening, according to a report on WTKR.com.
Police said they received a call at 6:15 p.m of a boy not breathing as the result of an animal bite at a home on West Railroad Street.
Police and members of the Perquimans County Rescue Squad administered CPR to James O’Neal Hudson. The child was later transported to Albermarle Hospital in Elizabeth City where he later died.
According to police, Hudson was attacked by the family’s mixed breed dog. The child's grandmother was looking after the boy at the time.
The Perquimans County Animal Control took custody of the dog and it is being help at an animal shelter. The sheriff’s department is seeking a consent release from the dog’s owner so the animal can be put down.
