RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR)- The 7th Annual Filipino Food Festival kicks off this Friday at Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Maria Cielo Sinsioco and her helper 9-year-old Jan Marie Eugenio show us how to make the delicious Filipino dessert Turon.
TURON (PHILIPPINE SWEET BANANA ROLLS)
4 ripe banana plantains cut into 3 lengthwise
½ cup light or dark brown sugar
12 spring roll wrappers
½ cup sliced jackfruit (optional)
¼ cup water for sealing wrappers
½ oil for frying
Roll the banana slices in brown sugar
Place 2-3 banana slices 2 inches from the bottom edge of a spring roll wrapper.
Add 2 jackfruit slices.
Fold the sides of the wrapper and roll.
Seal the top with water.
Heat oil in skillet. When hot, fry the banana rolls until golden brown.
Drain in a colander or paper towel.
Serve warm (best while wrapper is crunchy).
