FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (WTVR) – Police in Fredericksburg are investigating a homicide after a homeless man was found dead in a tent Wednesday morning.
Officials said a 911 call came in around 10:15 a.m. that said a man, who looked dead, had been spotted at a homeless camp behind the Central Park Townhomes.
That is where police and fire crews found a man’s body inside a tent in a heavily wooded area at the end of Roffman Road.
Police said their investigation is being treated as a homicide because of obvious signs of trauma to the man’s body.
The victim, a Hispanic male in his forties, was known to live in and around the Bragg Hill corridor since 2008, according to police. It is unknown how long the victim has been homeless. Additionally, officials believe the man was well known in the neighborhood, particularly within the Hispanic community.
Police are not releasing the man’s name pending notification of next of kin.
If you have information that could help police, call Detective Patrick Lamb at 540-654-5740. Police said that Lamb, who is fluent in Spanish, is only concerned with details connected to the homicide. Residency status will not be questioned.
