A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for central and northern Virginia until 10 p.m. Sunday.
A cold front is moving in from the north, and widely scattered storms have formed ahead of it. These storms will turn more numerous into this evening. The hot and humid air will provide the fuel for storms to get very powerful and produce very heavy rainfall. Some storms may be severe with damaging winds in excess of 60 mph and large hail.
Another watch may be issued south of the current one later this evening. There is a slight risk for severe weather for the entire state into early Monday.
