LEXINGTON, Va. (WTVR) – A federal judge has dismissed a lawsuit filed over the right to fly Confederate flags in Lexington.

The Sons of Confederate Veterans filed the suit claiming city leaders targeted them by prohibiting Confederate flags to be flown on city owned flag poles on Main Street.

The city created an ordinance that limits flags on city poles to local, state and American flags.

The judge’s ruling ultimately determined the flag poles represent a form of expression the government has the right to control.
