CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) - A local university refuses to say whether it was aware that a student, now wanted in connection with a murder, had a criminal record in another state.
Chesterfield Police named Ryan Christopher Simms a suspect in a deadly shooting that took place on the edge of Virginia State University's campus last week.
Maryland court records show Simms was charged with 31 crimes last summer, including multiple counts of robbery, assault, theft and firearms charges.
He pled guilty to two counts of robbery on February 14.
Then Simms remained free on bond pending a sentencing hearing on May 18.
VSU spokesman Tom Reed tells CBS 6 federal law prohibits the university from disclosing information about its knowledge of any student`s criminal history.

Police continued to look for Simms. Investigators said Simms in considered armed and dangerous.
