LOUISA COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) - The Louisa Sheriff's department arrested a Mineral man and charged him with aggravated sexual battery of a child in an incident that happened at Jouett Elementary School on Tuesday.
A press release from the Louisa County Sheriff's Office Friday afternoon says that 45 year-old Leslie R. Johnson has been charged with the Tuesday incident. He is accused of inappropriately touching a child. The charge of aggravated sexual battery charge is based on the age of the victim according to the release. Johnson is in the Central Virginia Regional Jail under no bond until his next court date in Louisa Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court on April 9.
Maj. Donald Lowe told CBS 6 Tuesday that the suspect was a visitor at the school. Friday they expanded on why Johnson was there by saying that he was there to pick up an unrelated child when the incident took place.
Deborah Pettit, Louisa School Superintendent, contacted parents through telephone and letter. She said that all safety procedures and plans were in place.
The letter noted that the matter was brought to the attention of the administration.
The Sheriff's Office says that it normally does not release information about crimes involving juvenile victims but because of numerous inquires they released what they could.
