SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. -- A Louisa County pastor died Monday outside his home in the Brokenburg area of Spotsylvania County, sheriff's spokesperson Capt. Liz Scott said.

In addition to his role at Edgewood Christian Church, 73-year-old Herbert Cadle was a beekeeper.

Investigators believe that job may have led to his death.

Cadle's wife called 911 after she noticed a fire in the woods.

When she investigated, she found her husband on the ground, Capt. Scott said.

Investigators are looking into whether Cadle's smoker started the fire. Beekeepers use smokers to keep bees away when they work in the hive.

Cadle, according to investigators, was apparently trying to get to a source of water when he collapsed and died.

The incident sparked a four-acre brush fire.

Cadle's cause of death remains under investigation.

The 911 call was made at about 1:42 p.m. Monday.
