VDOT offers advice to winter drivers

RICHMOND, Va. -- With the potential for more snow and ice early next week, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) said it hoped to pretreat some roads with some attention paid to bridges.

A VDOT spokesperson said they will monitor conditions throughout the weekend and decide if they are able to pretreat.

“If the storm is expected to begin as rain or wet mixes in any way, we won’t be able to pretreat because the materials will be washed away and ineffective so we’re keeping an eye on our forecast and making that decision in the coming days and then mobilize from there," Bethanie Glover with VDOT communications, said.

VDOT also wanted to remind drivers, if you start to lose control of your vehicle, to steer in the direction you want to go and pump the brakes, do not slam them.
