PETERSBURG, Va. – First responders and the Tri-Cities community stepped up to the plate to support a Petersburg firefighter in his fight against cancer.
A softball tournament Saturday raised more than $2,500 forSgt. Michael Clark, who was diagnosed with colon cancer in December.
Surgery removed a large tumor and 18 lymph nodes, but Clark is undergoing chemotherapy every other week.
While loved ones jumped in to ease medical costs for the family, Clark’s daughter said her father’s fellow brothers in the fire community always show up.
“They've been there every time I've called,” Tori Clark said. “Every time my dad's called, someone's been there and they never hesitate to help with anything."
