RICHMOND, Va -- A man arrested for brandishing a firearm near the Robert E Lee statue was found to actually be in possession of a BB gun.
Richmond Police say Keyon S. Hardy was arrested on Thursday, September 3 in the 400 block of North Allen Avenue. The arrest came during a citywide task force walk-through on Monument Avenue.
Police say Hardy had an outstanding warrant for brandishing a firearm in the same area from the day before.
Police say they originally believed Hardy was in possession of a military-style assault rifle.
However, after closer examination it was found to be a BB gun.
"There were no indicators on the weapon that it was not a real firearm," police said in a release.
Hardy has been charged with possession of ammunition by a felon.
