Henrico School Board votes to keep post-Labor Day start

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. -- After considering a pre-Labor Day start, the Henrico School Board voted Thursday to begin the 2021-2022 school year after Labor Day.

The virtual vote came during a work session Thursday after considering public input.

A Henrico County Schools survey found that a slight majority of respondents - 7,090 (51.4%) preferred starting the school year after Labor Day in 2021, while 6,713 (48.6%) indicated a preferred a pre-Labor Day start.

In early March, Henrico County Public Schools introduced the idea of a pre-Labor Day start to the 2021-22 school year. That was before school closures due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The 2021-22 Henrico County school year will begin after Labor Day, on Sept. 8, 2021.
