RICHMOND, Va. -- A book exchange program in Richmond hopes to help kids throughout the city discover a love for reading.

Hassan Fountain is passionate about keeping kids engaged in reading. His passion for books all started with his mother, an educator and librarian whp would bring discarded books home for Hassan and his sisters to read.

After his own son left for the marines, Hassan and his wife found 35 books in his son’s room, which gave them the the inspiration to start the "Fountain for Youth Foundation," an organization that aims to be the number one provider of literacy outside of the Virginia public school system.

The foundation specializes in implementing community libraries in neighborhoods throughout Virginia, hoping to push literacy to all children in Virginia no matter they live.

And while the foundation's work of giving out free books in schools has been hampered by the coronavirus, they are moving their efforts into the community.

The foundation's next book giveaway is set for Saturday, May 31 from 1 to 3pm in Mosby Court near the rental office.

To donate books you can reach Hassan at 804-687-6802 or on the Fountain For Youth Foundation Facebook page.
