PETERSBURG, Va. -- CBS 6's Month of Giving is over, but that doesn't mean we are done giving back to our community in the New Year.

In the first CBS Gives of 2021, with the help of our friends at Virginia Credit Union, senior reporter Wayne Covil surprised a local family in need.

"We've heard such good things about you and your family from Corporal Hernandez and Sergeant Hall. Heard that you got five kids, and they're doing very, very well in school," said Covil.

"Channel 6 does a thing called CBS 6 Gives where we find people that need a little extra help sometimes and since we heard such good things from Petersburg police, as far as CBS 6 Gives, we want to present you with a gift card to Publix. So we hope that starts your 2021 off with a bang."
