RICHMOND, Va. -- JFS Connecting Hearts is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to help kids meet forever families in the Richmond area.
Last week, the nonprofit held a virtual bowling ball fundraiser, hosted by CBS 6 anchor Bill Fitzgerald.
In the latest edition of CBS 6 Gives, with the help of the Virginia Credit Union, Fitzgerald surprised the organizers for a special thank you.
"Well, first of all, I want to thank you for having me take part in the JFS Connecting Hearts Bowling Ball. It was a great time," said Fitzgerald. "But what I took away from it as Becky especially what you've said before, is that it's all of our responsibility to help these children in the Virginia foster care system. Every child deserves a permanent loving home. And it's not just a nonprofit's responsibility or the Department of Social Services. It's all of our responsibility, and to hear and see those voices last week in the JFS Connecting Hearts bowling ball event, it was really, it was really special, and I was really honored to be a part of it."
In the spirit of giving, Fitzgerald presented the organizers with a $300 donation towards the bowling ball event.
"We have a monthly segment called CBS 6 Gives in which we give a gift. Sometimes it's a small token to a worthy individual or a great cause. And we always say you know, thank you for your amazing work and you know, pay it forward. But what you all are doing goes beyond paying it forward because you're doing the heaviest lifting that any of us have to do," said Fitzgerald.
